The Role
This is a senior underwriting position focused on building and managing a profitable casualty portfolio. You will work closely with brokers and internal teams to identify opportunities, structure deals, and drive growth.
Key Responsibilities
- Communicate risk appetite and casualty proposition clearly to broker partners
- Work closely with distribution and other underwriting teams to identify target accounts and cross-selling opportunities
- Assess, prioritise, and select submissions in line with underwriting strategy
- Structure and negotiate pricing, terms, and conditions with brokers and clients
- Build and maintain strong broker relationships to grow a profitable book of business
- Identify cross-selling opportunities across wider product lines
- Contribute to underwriting projects and business initiatives as required
- Develop and execute an individual business plan aligned with overall strategy
- Ensure underwriting discipline in line with guidelines, including rate, retention, and new business targets
- Support and mentor junior underwriters
- Deliver a high standard of service to brokers and clients
- Maintain accurate documentation and file management
Experience Required
- 5+ years’ experience within casualty underwriting, brokerage, or insurance markets
- Experience with captive risks or large SIR accounts is a strong advantage
- Progress towards relevant insurance qualifications
- Strong relationship-building and stakeholder management skills
- Proven ability in business development, sales, and broker engagement
- Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal
- Commercial mindset with a results-driven approach
- Comfortable working in a fast-paced, evolving environment
- Strong attention to detail with good analytical capability
- Proficiency in Microsoft Word and Excel
