Role Summary
The Senior Claims Specialist will manage and oversee a portfolio of intricate claims, primarily focusing on Property and Structural Defect cases reported to the organization. This role involves providing strategic oversight, governance, and leadership to the wider Claims team and external partners, while ensuring alignment with internal processes and collaborating with the Reinsurance department when required.
This is a controlled function as defined by the Central Bank of Ireland.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead and participate in negotiations, mediations, and legal proceedings for significant or high-profile claims.
- Support senior management with reserving processes, claims analysis, and the preparation of both internal and external reports.
- Manage relationships with external advisors, including legal counsel and barristers, to optimize outcomes and control associated costs.
- Monitor and guide the resolution of complex and high-value claims, ensuring alignment with policy terms and minimizing financial exposure.
- Develop and execute strategies for the effective settlement of large claims, leveraging negotiation expertise and business insight.
- Prepare and deliver comprehensive written and data-driven reports, such as litigation updates and portfolio overviews, for leadership and governance bodies.
- Establish and track performance metrics (KPIs) to enhance claims management efficiency and provide actionable insights to executive leadership.
- Contribute to international claims strategies and implement them within the local market.
- Collaborate with underwriting teams to inform policy wordings and address claims-related considerations.
- Adhere to all relevant legal and regulatory requirements, following organizational policies and procedures.
- Ensure a consistent focus on delivering a high standard of service to customers and stakeholders.
- Perform additional duties as needed.
Qualifications & Experience
- Preferably holds ACII/FCII credentials or a legal qualification.
- In-depth knowledge of claims processes and extensive experience in regulatory environments.
- A minimum of 15 years’ experience in the insurance industry, either within an insurer or adjusting firm.
- Proven track record of managing complex commercial claims, including significant loss cases.
- Expertise in handling mediations, litigations, and legacy claims, with strong negotiation skills.
- Experience conducting account reviews, audits, and commutation discussions.
- Advanced technical knowledge of claims, particularly in areas such as Property, Construction Bonds, Latent Defects, and Professional Indemnity.
